What a Good Idea

Zernike's Essay entitled, "And Now a Word From Their Cool College Sponsor" tells the story of two high school students from New Jersey that pay for their colleges out in Southern California by adversting themselves. They of course have to wear the credit cards logo on their clothes and such, but what a great idea they came up with.

These two guys have found the easiest way to pay for college and probably have fun doing it too. Just imagine, they also do not have to pay it back. I also though that Zernike had a good point when the essay said that the kids might be benefiting more than the credit card company. I thought this was also a good point because if these two kids are in the spotlight for doing this advertising thing than they are bound to become somewhat popular also.

Response to Roy F. Fox's "Salespeak"

I thought that the first three pagesof this essay made a great point about how dependent our society is today on advertising. I also thought that the first threepages were also very anoying in how they used to many company names in one sentence. Mr. Fox does get hispont through though that in today's society advertising is a big deal.

Just think about the clothes that some of us wear everyday. Isn't that part of advertising too? It is because we are displaying the company names to people as we walk around. It is also kinda funny that we pay money for shirts that just say Abercrombie or Hollister and then we also wear them and advertise for the company and make them even more money. Shouldn't they be paying us to advertise for them?

Meet My 5000 new best Pals

I think that this essay is absolutely right about online social networks (even though i do participate in Facebook). It is a way to meet new people, but not really meet new people. I liked when it said the part about deleting a friend. In real life when you do get mad at a friend you just can't delete them you have to fix your problem with them and get over it. In the cyber world if you get mad at someone you can just ignore them or delete them and they are gone forever.

One thing that site like Facebook and MySpace are good for is keeping in touch with friends and family that are far away. That is why it appeals to colege students so well. A lot of college students have friends scattered all over the United States and a great way of keeping in contact with them is Facebook and MySpace.
